2009 Florida State Paddleboard Championships - April 11th

The 2009 Ron Jon Easter Surf Fest is not just about traditional short board and long board surfing.

In addition to a host of beachside skate demos, surf vendor booths, great food and great sights...the 2009 Surf Fest in Cocoa Beach will host the Florida State Paddleboard Championships.

Traditional prone paddleboarding began many years ago as a core life guard activity on stock rescue boards that lead to competition and in recent years has grown into a global endurance race community.

Paddleboard classes range from stock 12ft and 14ft boards up through 18ft + unlimited class boards. For surfers around the world, paddleboarding is a true "Waterman/Waterwoman" sport combining elements of endurance similar to cycling and triathlon with open ocean wave riding.

There are several different venues for paddleboard races in recent years that include open ocean, flat water and even sprint formats.

Stand Up Paddleboard divisions were also added to paddleboard races in the past couple of years and represent a huge growth segment in this form of endurance racing.

At 8am this Saturday April 11 at Shepard Park, Cocoa Beach, FL; the Cocoa Beach Surf Museum will present the 2009 Florida State Paddleboard Championships.

In addition there will also be a King/Queen of the beach race held, following the FSPBC
Beach registration begins at 7:30 AM. Race time is 8:30 AM. The King of the Beach competition begins after completion of the race (aprox. 11AM)

The FSPBC is a seven mile race. The King of the Beach is a paddle, run, swim sprint event. Also this year, three Stand Up Paddle (SUP) divisions have been added to the FSPBC race.

Trophy presentation is after completion of events.
