ESA Southeast Regional Surfing Championships

SurfGuru Promo by Cap’n Kean’o and Kelly Show...

Thanks to The SurfGuru Promo Team Cap’n Kean’o
and Kelly for putting in the time and effort in covering this 3 days event!
450 surfers from the East Coast of Florida, the Florida Gulf Coast, the Florida Panhandle and Alabama converged on Sebastian Inlet this weekend with hundreds of spectators for the ESA Southeast Regional Surfing Championships. Winners from this contest are open and qualified for the 2008 Eastern Surfing Championships (The Easterns) and the USA Surfing Championships, the best of the best in amateur American surfing today.

The MVP for this year’s ESA Southeast Regional Championships, awarded by Surfguru.com, is by far contest director Mary Ann Mangiacapre . Watching this lady work was as magical as watching the surfers.
Organizing such an amazing feet as this contest and have it roll on as smooth as can be, through bad weather and fickle Florida surfing conditions is extraordinary!

The level of participation on the sponsorship side was second to none. There was just as many cool surf companies on the beach as if it were a pro contest. And in a way? It was! Not for prize money but bragging rights.
Past, present and future surf stars dotted the line up and the beach. And while the surf conditions may not have been epic, the vibe was.

Magma Surf wax was magnificent! Frieda Zamba-Shaw was there all weekend long, hooking up the groms with cool custom paint jobs on their T-shirts. The stencils came from the killer new line of X-track high performance traction pads. Ya gotta see these things to believe them. And as far as Magma wax goes, Cap’n Kean’o says “I’ve tried every wax out there… and Magma by far is the best stuff for yer schtick . Definitely surf wax evolved!”

In my eyes the local standout was a young lady from Melbourne Beach. Her name is Jasset Umbel. This girl smoked the last round of the finals and I’m sure she has a bright future ahead in her competitive surfing career. I do believe she snagged first place in the Junior Women’s. You can check the ESA’s site for all the final scores. http://www.surfesa.org/content/category/6/31/41/
Her style reminded me of a young Rochelle Ballard. I’d keep my eyes on this girl!

Over all it was spectacular weekend. We enjoyed all the people who came by the tent and donated to Grind for Life and Surfrider. We were present all 4 days and enjoyed every minute of it. The family atmosphere was beautiful and fueled by the ESA’s reputation of people helping people.

There was an amazing nature show near the end of the day when two giant Manaray swam almost through the middle of the line up, went down to the jetty, gracefully turned around and went back the other way.

After the tag-team event Surfguru was privileged to auction of an official “Vans Triple Crown Contest Jersey”. All the proceeds went to our charities and the jersey fetched a handsome Fifty Dollars, which made our collection jar look oh so juicy.
Thanks to everyone who donated or just came by to show some love.

We’ll see you guys next time!
