sebastian inlet surf forecast
Saturday: Thigh high with lucky waist high sets from the east at 7 sec. Gentle offshore winds turn onshore for the afternoon. Winds stay mostly offshore but south of the Cape may see onshore winds from the approaching storm by the afternoon.
Sunday: Carry over conditions from Saturday to start the day with potential storm surf building as the day goes on. Light morning onshore winds and wind swell build as the TD Nine bands (likely named storm Imelda by Sunday) starts to parallel Florida’s coast sending us some of its outer bands.
Looking Ahead: Based on the latest models tropical Depression Nine (likely to become TS Imelda) will be closer to the coast than originally forecast. With the interactions between these two storms adding a higher amount of uncertainty that usual the forecast will update as new data comes in.
Monday: As Nine heads up the coast we continue to build big chunky surf. Winds should gradually clock offshore for Southern Florida and maybe south of the Cape later in the day but they will stay fairly strong. Northern Florida should see strong onshore winds turning north later in the day. This could clean conditions up for us especially in areas blocking the west winds like tall hotels and condos.
Tuesday: We should see the 12 sec east Humberto swell fill in a bit more, mixing in with the closer 8 sec NE Imelda swell for BIG surf. If the storm continues northern Florida should see NW winds in the high teens and twenties while south of the Cape could see offshore winds in the mid to high teens. Again keep an eye on those west wind protected spots.
Wednesday will continue with big surf from the N/NE at 11 sec with offshore winds for south of the Cape and strong northern winds for northern areas that may spread south later in the day. Winds look like they may turn onshore for Thursday or Friday depending on how quickly this storm moves away and stay that way through the weekend bringing us big chunky surf for a while.
As always with these storm swells surf within your limits and stay safe!
In the Tropics: Both Humberto and Imelda are tracking closer to us than originally forecast. Humberto will still make its northward hook but will now pass around 700 miles to the east as a major Hurricane
TD Nine (Imelda) is heading north from the eastern end of Cuba and will be passing around 150 miles to our east on its way north Sunday through Monday. TD Nine is still not expected to make landfall in FL but it will bring us additional storms and rain fall for Sunday and parts Monday. The storm is expected to stay a Tropical Strom as it passes Florida and perhaps build into a Cat 1 Hurricane on Tuesday up by the Carolinas before heading east.
