Yellowman At Capt. Hirams

Once again Capt Hiram’s Resort and Marina opened the Sandbar gates and put on an awesome show in their unique environment.

It didn’t take long for crowd to come rolling in, with New School Dropouts as the opening gig. They have a huge following around these parts and if you haven’t heard their music? I hope you do soon; you’re missing out on beautiful head swaying songs, to a popping mix that will have you jumping and bouncing. Their CD’s available on their Myspace! http://www.myspace.com/newschooldropouts Check their venues, there’s never a doubt a killer show will unfold.

What was already a huge crowd grew into a mighty one in anticipation of The King Yellowman and The Sagittarius Band.

Yellowman became the first dancehall artist to be signed to a major American label in 1981.Haling from Jamaica, he sent his unique sounds around the world, being called one of the hardest working musicians in the industry. During the early 80’s   he produced 5 albums in one year and 40 singles.

In 1986 we almost lost The King to jaw cancer, being told he had only 6 months to live. Luckily for us all, his surgeries were successful and after an extended hiatus he’s back bringing us the incredible, energy filled shows like the one on Sunday, proving from his childhood to his present he is a Champion.

Come have a listen to the King… www.myspace.com/zungguzungguguzungguzeng and pay a visit to his website. He really does have an incredible story to go with his incredible soul.

The place was packed and the Hiram’s staff handled it like it was a day in the park.
As usual, I was lucky to have the wonderful Marci taking care of me. We were supposed to gather a few waitresses and get a group picture? But it’s hard to corral a group of busy bees! I’ll get that shot next time and maybe one in a little glass.

Check out our Myspace for more pics from the event!
