DUB MASSIVE '08

"Dude, that's massive. Dub Massive." I say, as we all chuckle; the phrase of the year if you were lucky enough to have experienced the event this year then you'd agree. It was exactly that: "Massive". Packed with some of the best battle and reggae DJs from around Florida, there was nothing but positive energy all night long at the Sandbar in Cocoa Beach, the event's home this year.

Just to give you a brief rundown, Dub Massive was created by Mark Longnecker (yes that's his real name), owner/operator of Endless Summer Tattoo in Cocoa Beach, FL. Longnecker created the Reggae, rave-style/inspired party to bring a better reggae scene to the area. The first one was held in '06, kicking off with Jack "Crackajack" Hoffpauir of the New School Dropouts, along with Lance-O of Kulcha Shok Musik, Natti Reno, and Longnecker himself. Mark said Jack Hoffpauir blew it up; he made it Massive. With Jack's passing last November, Longnecker knew this year had to be something that would've made Jack proud and he did not disappoint.

The event was a success, making it one of the few places females can dance without getting an erection rubbed against the small of their back. The toned-down environment came packaged with positive energy, making for great atmosphere in the Sandbar as more and more people came filing in throughout the night. Even though space became scarce, not a single problem was had from my vantage point, as the theme of positive energy resonated throughout the venue. Reggae music brings the mellow out in everyone.

With the help of some friends and some big hearts, this year was a most Massive party. This years bill included Shayar of Buring Spear, Frankie Sly, 74 Soundsystem, DJ Apache, Lance-O, Tommy Sickles, Jr., Ena, The White Abbot, DJ Nick Micheals, Rob D of Part One Tribe, and, of course, the Funky Longneck. Conscious Vibe productions and Unknown Soulja Clothing were also there to lend a helping hand.

The party started at 8pm sharp and continued all night long. Two Longnecker-painted  surfboards were donated to raffle off by Ricky Carrol of R&D and another from Ocean Sports World. All money from the raffle was donated to the Hopeline Foundation, a suicide prevention hotline, in memory of Jack, who was very involved and held benefits for the organization in the past. People were giving money left and right, making it a great experience for all those involved. If you missed it, not to fret.. you'll have a chance to catch the Massiveness in '09. If you can't wait that long, be on the lookout for the video from this years DUB MASSIVE by Bulldog Productions. Check out Don Eggert's photos below.
