Headed Down South to Central America...

When the flat spells of summer hit Cocoa Beach, it’s time for me to When the flat spells of summer hit Cocoa Beach, it’s time for me to head south to Central America to get a piece of the action in the Pacific. Ever since 2007, I’ve had a special affinity for Costa Rica, and make it a point to visit each summer to surf.

As a habitual budget traveler, I usually find myself in the Jaco/Hermosa area; its proximity to the San Jose airport makes it a very economical surf destination. Add to that consistent waves, delicious food, great fishing, and tons of options for nature adventures such as waterfall and rainforest hikes, zip line tours, horseback riding, kayaking, etc, and you’ve got several great reasons to visit the Puntarenas region of Costa Rica.

This week, I’m headed to one of the most beautiful hotels in the area—Surf Inn Hermosa (surfinnhermosa.com). Located right on the beach in the heart of Playa Hermosa, Surf Inn is a Mediterranean style boutique hotel featuring comfortable accommodations, friendly staff, well-kept grounds, and a rooftop lounge with incredible ocean views.

Back in 2007, when I lived in Jaco for a couple months to teach yoga and surf, I met Surf Inn owner Christina Truitt who is a wonderfully cheerful and gregarious expat. She runs the hotel with Michael Cruden from Satellite Beach (big up Space Coast local). At the time I met Christina, Surf Inn was nearing its completion and I could not WAIT until I got the chance to stay at her gorgeous hotel.

Well, my chance is finally here! I am so excited to spend the week on the beach, right in front of a world-class, consistent break, at the lovely Surf Inn. Look for my article at the end of the week for my review of Surf Inn Hermosa and my trip to Costa Rica!
