Rusty’s Seafood

Not even the cold weather could keep a diverse crowd from enjoying the fundraiser for the Kelly Slater project last night at Rusty’s Seafood and Oyster Bar in Port Canaveral.
Rhett Fischer was most gracious in donating the space for the fundraiser as well as all monies raised from the wine and buffet offered at the event. The Aquanauts, a local surf music band rocked the house and warmed things up by donating their pay for the night to the cause.
Nationally recognized artist Bruce Reynolds progressive artwork was on display for sale and was inspiring to me, as an artist myself. He donated 15% of all sales to the project.

It was thrilling to see the 1 ½  scale model of Kelly completed in clay ready to be sent to the foundry in Sarasota. Tasha Drazich, the extremely talented sculptress was on hand to explain the whole process of how ‘Kelly’ came to be. The entire process took a solid 6 months to get to the finished clay model. Next a rubber mold will be made, then a wax mold which will be used to make the final bronze statue.
Shaping legend Matt Kechele created the just under 10ft long ”short board” Kelly is pulling his signature move on. Tasha did excellent job capturing that moment in time from the world famous photo from Tom Dugan.
You can see more of Tasha work at www.tashadrazich.com .
Tasha said they were coming very close to meeting their funding goal for this stage in the project but that they aren’t quite there yet to complete the casting.
