Kyle Garson wins NKF again!

The 2009 NKF Pro Am Surfing Festival will go down in history as one of the best run charity surfing events of all time. Just the logistics of fitting in all those pro and divisions in a weekend is a challenge and the NKF Staff made it smooth as silk. Amateurs and professionals competed in small  but challenging surf and everyone had a great time.  The event has a rich 24 year history and this year was no different...in fact it may have been even better.

Rich and Phil Salick, and the NKF with the help of a few dozen dedicated volunteers put on a great contest and there was plenty of other activities from the human slingshot and indoboarding at Shepard park to the tandem surfing competition at the pier. It's estimated that over 50,000 people came out to enjoy the fun and festivities. In all the event raised over 150,000 dollars to benefit the fight against kidney disease.

In case you couldn't make it to the beach this year the contest was even broadcast live on the internet. It was a great opportunity for the surfers to show off their talent and benefit a great cause at the same time. Congrats goes out to Kyle Garson for winning the 1,300 grand prize at this years Steve Cassanova Pro....way to go KYLE! We wish that there was a cure for kidney disease today, and after this weekend maybe we're just a little closer to that goal.
