Even though the Airshow was pretty much a grounded, a great time was had by all who attended the 27th Annual Founder’s Day Pineapple surf contest held at Ocean Avenue in Melbourne Beach on Saturday May 1.

A southerly breeze kept things tolerably cool but only provided 1 to 2 foot waves. Conditions were best during the first part of the day for the Menehunes and Boys heats. By the end of the day, when it was time for the Airshow, there was little more than a ripple, which made the pros have to work hard to earn their share of the $450 purse which they ended up splitting.

About 100 surfers competed for the coveted and awesome looking pineapple trophies as well as some great prizes and goodie bags filled with stickers and stuff; coupons, gift certificates and discounts that were provided by local business sponsors.
