Dub Massive 2011 @ Cocoa Beach’s Sandbar January 22nd

Top Reggae DJs and MCs Unite....

On Saturday night, January 22, Florida's top reggae DJ's and MC's will unite to preform at the 2011 Dub Massive. The DJ's will include Lance-O, Righteous Hifi, LongNeck, Ragga, Conquering One, Soufside Rudeboys, J. Boogie, Ragga P, Jimmy South and Nick Michael. The MC's that will be rocking the mike are White Abbot, Silver Lion, Badda Skat, Wookie J., the General and more to be announced. The Dj's will be spinning classic roots reggae, dancehall, lover's rock, and dub from records, cd's and digitally. They also pump up the crowd with many DJ techniques such as airhorns, lazers, back spins(with the record) and different sound effects. The MC's will be both preforming some of their original tunes and free-styling over reggae instrumental “riddims”. This is similar to a hip hop rap battle, but the music is reggae and the vibe is not a so much a competitive battle. The event could be compared to dancehalls and street party's of the Caribbean where DJ's bring huge sound systems and patrons dance and “dagger” all night.

The event's promoter is Mark Longenecker, owner of Endless Summer Tattoo in Cocoa Beach. He is not only the promoter but a DJ as well preforming under the shortened name LongNeck. He started DJing about 18 years ago as a rave DJ spinning breaks, jungle and trance. Since then he has made many visits to Jamaica and other islands in the Caribbean where he has gained a great respect for music and culture. He has acquired a huge music collection of records, cd's and mp3's.

The Dub Massive started in 2006 and this upcoming party will be the 6th one. As a DJ, LongNeck has opened for many bands and well known reggae acts such as Yellowman, Eek-A-Mouse and Collie Buddz. He wanted to put together a party where the DJ's were the star of the show, not the band. The original line up had three DJ's and one MC. One of those DJ's was Jack Hoffpauir. He was the Trombone player and DJ for the local well known band New School Dropouts. Jack's father committed suicide and he started a party called Music for Hope that was a charity benefit for the National Suicide Hotline. Jack got Mark Longenecker involved to hand paint a donated surfboard to be raffled off to raise more money for the cause. Jack ended up getting killed by a train in his beloved father's jeep. After that travesty Mark decided to make his Dub Massive party a benefit for the Suicide Hotline and dedicate it to Jack. So now a big part of the Dub Massive is the raffle for the hand painted surfboard and other items donated from the surf industry and local businesses.

Anyone who enjoys reggae music and Caribbean culture will have the time of their life at this party! It takes place at the Cocoa Beach Sand Bar where 520 meets A1A. Sand Bar is an open air bar that catches a nice ocean breeze and is located right on the beach, Mon. There is going to be drink specials on rum and Red Stripe all night and the dance-floor is guaranteed to be bumping.
