“Ocean Motion & Much More!” Eco-Explorers Summer Camp

“Ocean Motion & Much More!” Eco-Explorers Summer Camp for Ages 9 to 15
Make special connections with ocean to lagoon habitats and wildlife while sharing fun adventures on the water!
Weeklong camps are June 4-8, 11-15, 18-22 and 25-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $240 and includes
transportation, certified aquatic instructors, equipment, a t-shirt and complimentary guided sea turtle walk with
preferred reservation! Enrollment is limited to 13 campers each week. Email donnalee@conserveturtles.org or call

Lights Out for Sea Turtles! - May 1st to October 31st @ 9 pm.
Sea turtle nesting season is here! Prevent disorientation of nesting females and hatchling sea turtles by turning off all
indoor and outdoor lighting visible from the beach after dark.
Turtle Walk Reservations - Starting Tuesday, May 1st @ 9 am
Join a presentation and guided walk to learn about and observe threatened loggerhead sea turtles nesting on the
beaches of the barrier island. Walks will be held at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout June,
July and the first week of August. Donation of $10 is non-refundable. Reservations are limited to 20 each night.

Oyster Mat Making - Thursday, May 2nd @ 10 am
Help The Brevard Zoo with their community project to restore oyster reefs in the Mosquito Lagoon of North Brevard
County. Volunteering is fun, rewarding and best of all free!
“Once Upon a Barrier Island” Celebration- Saturday, May 12th from 11am-2pm
Everyone is invited to celebrate the Barrier Island Center’s 4th anniversary. Enjoy guided hikes, sample kayak
paddles, seining, live animals, eco-arts and environmental education exhibits! Special musical appearance by 23
Treez. Food and refreshments will be available for sale courtesy of DeAngelos by the Sea. There is no cost to
attend.
Beach Cleanup - Saturday, May 19th @ 9 am
Help nesting sea turtles by keeping our barrier island beaches clean in recognition of Endangered Species Day!

“Hook-a-Book” Kids Book Club - Friday, June 1st @ 10 am
Let us help you “hook” your kids on reading - even during summer break! Join us each month, through the summer,
as we read a new eco-book, gather to discuss it and participate in a topic related activity. This month’s book will be
“One Tiny Turtle” by Nicola Davies - An International Reading Association Teachers’ Choice. Enrollment is limited to
10 children, ages 5-10. Please call to make your reservation. There is no cost to participate; however, the book
may be purchased at a 10% discount from our Mermaids Purse Gift Shop. Additional copies are available at your
local public library. Don’t forget to read the book in advance.
