Indian River Lagoon Weekly Inshore Fishing Report

The cold weather has moved out and not only are we loving it, but the fish are also. The Indian River Lagoon has been on fire the past week and a half. It started out with a big trout run in the flats, but now the redfish and even snook have also moved in. We’ve been catching trout throughout the IRL fairly regularly the past couple weeks. The reds and snook are just starting to move in, and they are hungry. Your best bet for them is to fish near inlets. Yesterday, we did very well in the IRL just south of Sebastian. We caught 9 reds, 15 trout, and a huge black drum. The North Carolina couple had a blast!

All these fish are in 6-24 inches of water and most were caught during the heat of the day. They are out sunning themselves and are just as happy as we are that the cold weather is over. Free lining live shrimp has been the most effective technique for reds and trout. They have been hitting DOA CALs pretty well too. Instead of lightly swimming or jigging your CAL, rip it across the water like a spoon. Remember, we are catching these fish in very shallow water so you have to move your bait fairly fast to keep it off the bottom and clean of any vegetation.
