RC's was first surfed in 1960 by a bunch of kids on some California long boards and some made by local surfer under the label " Murf the Surf Custom " At the time there was a Royal Castle hamburger stand across the street where the Dunkin Donuts is today, thus RC's. Most of the spots back then were named after restaurants. Other spots like Hamburger House (now Buccaneer) and Lums (another quick food restaurant that severed just about anyone a schooner of beer) now called Perkins have changed names down through the years. Rc's can hold a solid 8ft North swell and can be very dangerous when it's that size! Look out for the holes in the reef (ankle breakers)! Rc's is also a tough paddle out when its big! |
