Hawaii Now!

Best rates ever!

I have just spent two of the most wonderful weekends of my life in Hawaii…Memorial Day and my birthday weekend.  If you have never been to Hawaii, or never been here in the summer, take the opportunity of a lifetime and come now.

Tourism is lower than it has been since they started keeping records.  This means deals for you.  This weekend my Lady and I  stayed in Waikiki and acted like tourists.  Wee stayed at a very nice hotel just a little off the strip (a lot quieter) and were upgraded to a full suite.  For $95, including all taxes and hidden charges, we had a suite that was bigger and nicer than my apartment!  It had a full kitchen, plasma TV, Bose stereo, Jacuzzi tub, and unbelievable Toto toilet that has a warmed seat and washes you too!

We went dancing at a beachfront bar that would normally have a line to get in.  We walked in and got a great table.  The strip has enough people to be interesting, but while it is usually crowded like NYC, it was mellow.  Restaurants are keeping their rates down to try to draw people in.  Hotels are giving rate that haven’t been seen since the Regan era.

Meanwhile, the weather is perfect.  Summer is beautiful in Hawaii.  Winter has bigger waves, but gnarly crowds in the lineup.  Summer brings smaller waves on all four sides of the island and no crowds.  Golf courses are empty and in great shape.  The fishing is fantastic.  Hiking is much better in summer.

Hawaii has only two seasons; wet and dry.  The winter is wet, while the summer is dry.  The flowers are in bloom in summer, making the sights even more spectacular.  The temperature stays nearly the same all year long here, so it is not like summer in Florida.  Being dry season, there aren’t many bugs, although I laugh at people complaining about mosquitoes here.  In the Florida summertime, three mosquitoes can make a meal…or make a meal of you.  Here, there are these wimpy little bugs that tickle more than hurt!

Air fares are also down.  The only problem is the same as everywhere, board bag fees.  I suggest planning ahead and shipping your boards and saving a fortune.

Now is the time to visit and enjoy.  Hope to see some of  you out here!
