Melbourne Beach Founders Day Fun

Capn Keno and 1st mate Kelly SG promo Team

There was just enough surf to pull off a well organized contest, put together by an awesome person, Curtis Byrd.

Every time the SG street team sets up, we do something to raise money for our friend Mike Rogers and his Grind for Life organization and Curtis was one of the first ones over to get a raffle ticket! And he won! Good karma gets good karma, you know.

Any kind of contest can be a nightmare to put together, but Curtis made it look easy. He wore a big smile all day and so did all the contestants. That leads me to say, job well done Sir!
There were beautiful trophies, donated by Gypsysurf.com. Jeff and Liane, the owners and operators of Gypsy Surf, are wonderful people. They were set up next to us all day and it was really fun hanging out with them. They have sweet deal on skate decks and the Capt and I picked up “The Scream 8.00” for our son Tre’. Check them out online!

One of my favorite events is the 5th annual Turtle Splash “FUN-raiser”. Every dollar raised during Turtle Splash will be donated to the M.O.R.G.A.N. Project, which stands for Making Opportunities Reality Granting Assistance Nationwide. The funds are used to help other family caregivers to better care for their chronically ill children with physical disabilities through individual assistance and small grants.

The event is race through a designated obstacle course for turtles, rubber turtles that is! Contestants adopt a turtle then cheer it on as it speeds its way through the course! In the past, Turtle Splash has brought in anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 for the M.O.R.G.A.N. Project.

Prizes, donated from various local businesses, are awarded to the top winners.

Mike Rogers and GFL had their sick portable halfpipe over at Catalyst Surf shop putting on a great show for the people. SKATE and DESTROY CANCER, we like to say…

As always we had a lot of SG friends and crazy fans drop by the tent, which we love. We had surf videos to watch, shade to cool people off and good conversation waiting for everybody. The Capt always spins the best tunes and a new added feature at the tent, hacky-sack tournaments. That was killer! Over all we had a great time, gave away a lot of goodies ( my fav thing to do) and can’t wait to do it all again!

Until next time!
**PEACE**
