Busting out from Hawaii last year and making a self titled debut album, The Green has proved themselves anything but green. The CD climbed the 2010 Billboard Top 10 Reggae Chart, was recognized as iTunes’ Reggae Album of the Year, won Best Reggae Album at Hawaii’s 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and has sold over 20,000 copies. Their upcoming album Ways & Means drops on October 25th, 2011 on Easy Star Records. The members; Caleb Keolanuai on lead vocals, Ikaika Antone on keys and lead vocals, JP Kennedy on guitar and lead vocals, Zion Thompson on guitar and lead vocals, Brad Watanabe on bass, Leslie Ludiazo on drums and Lucas Hom on keys have created an exemplary group of singer-songwriters that have brought their at times familial links to high levels of diversified music infusing dancehall, Hawaiian, reggae, R&B, soul and pop.
When asked how the name of the band came about, JP explains; “We wanted a name that didn’t really point you in any direction. It’s just a color, it makes you figure out what you want it to mean.” As a new player in the music industry it’s important to the band to keep the Pono everywhere in their music. They definitely do this while they are touring the country in support of Ways & Means. Cas Haley who came in second place on America’s Got Talent is their opening act who has his own album, Connection, out on the same label is the support act for their Florida shows.
They will both grace the Sports Page stage in Satellite Beach on Friday, November 11th, 2011. Come see why these new reggae rocks artists are taking the world by storm and leaving you wanting more!
