ENVIRONMENTALLY ENDANGERED LANDS PROGRAM
“Beauty of Nature” Day Camp - Thursday, January 3rd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hike through the maritime hammock and along the beach to explore the barrier island. Then create art, poetry and prose to
celebrate the beauty of nature. For ages 8 to12. Please wear closed toe shoes, bring lunch, water bottle, and bug spray.
Enrollment is limited, so call to make your reservation.

Beach Clean-Up - Saturday, January 5th @ 10 a.m.
Give the beach a fresh beginning for the new year. Volunteering is fun and rewarding!.

“Sea Stars!” Touch Tank - Sunday, January 6th from 1 to 3 p.m.
Come meet our “Sea Stars” and learn about the diversity of life living in the Indian River Lagoon. Touch tank guests will
include a Diamondback Terrapin and an assortment of conchs and crabs.

Oyster Mat Making - Wednesday, January 16th @ 10 a.m.
Help the Brevard Zoo create mats to restore oyster reefs in the Mosquito Lagoon.

“Nature’s Most Amazing Events” Film - Saturday, January 19th @ 1 & 3 p.m.
Climactic phenomena and immense natural forces, often starting thousands of miles away, drive a chain reaction that
culminates in spectacular wildlife events. For some animals it can be a window of opportunity, but for others, they are the
most dangerous time of their lives. Parental guidance suggested. Running time: 50 min.

Little Hatchlings “Migration Station” - Thursday, January 24th @ 10 a.m.
Learn about bird migrations and take a hike to look for bird food and resting places. Then use your creative skills to make a
migration station for birds to stop off and have a bite to eat. For children ages 2 to 5. Children must be accompanied by an
adult. Please wear closed toe shoes; bring water bottle, snack and bug spray. Make your reservation by January 22nd.

“Birds of a Feather Hike Together” - Saturday, January 26th @ 8 a.m.
Look for birds of prey in sprawling live oaks or listen for song birds calling from the canopy. The 2.5 mile hike will be led by
local ornithologist and FL Tech Assistant Professor, Christin Pruett. Please wear closed toe shoes, bring a water bottle and
bug spray. Meet at Maritime Hammock trailhead, 6200 S. Hwy. A1A, Melbourne Beach. Enrollment is limited to 10. Call
to make your reservation by January 24th.

“Native Landscaping Bike Tour” - Saturday, January 26 @ 9 a.m.
Join BIC Assistant Land Manger, Nichole Perna, and the Environmental Advisory Board for the Town of Melbourne Beach
for a tour of the town’s best beach friendly gardens. Meet at the Loggerhead Preserve in Melbourne Beach. Come by bike,
and bring water bottle.

*Pelican Island Kayak Paddle* - Sunday, January 27th from 1 to 4 p.m.
Paddle around Pelican Island to view this thriving rookery! Meet at Spratt Creek launch south of Pelican Island Viewing
Area on Jungle Trail. Visit www.fws.gov/pelicanisland/visiting/pi_map.html for directions. Please wear water shoes, and
bring your water bottle/snack. Tandem or single kayaks available. Children under 12 must paddle tandem with adult. Cost
is $38 per person. Limited to 20 people/10 kayaks. Make your reservation by January 24th. No refunds after this date
unless minimum is not met. If weather does not permit after meeting to launch, rain date to be determined.

*Surf Fishing 101 & 102* - Tuesday January 29th & February 5th from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Surf Fishing 101 “The First Step” - This introductory classroom clinic covers the basics and teaches you what it takes to have
a productive day of surf fishing. Topics include rod and reel selection, support equipment, standard pompano rigs, weights,
choosing bait, fishing locations and more.
Surf Fishing 102 “Putting it all Together” - Building on 101, anglers will learn how to set up on the beach to fish, surf cast,
tie knots, cut and use various baits, and read ocean conditions. Please wear hat and water shoes and bring water and a
snack. Cost is $25. Enrollment limited to 20.
