Melbourne Beach Surf Movies In The Park - July 20th, 2013

Free To The Public - Bring A Lawn Chair

July 20th, 2013 - Ryckman Park - Live Music beginning at 7:15pm with local musicians, 23 Treez, Ken Holt as well as The Honey Miller Band's Dave Miller and Anna Rusk. Following their performances and just after sunset, Melbourne Beach resident Will Lucas will present Part 2 in a series of surf documentaries entitled Surfing Brevard and Beyond.  Additional information can be found at www.surf64.com

 

East Coast Surfing Hall Of Fame Legends Joe Twombly and Sam Gornto, both members of the mid-60's Surfboards Hawaii and Hobie Surf Teams present an informative view of early surfing, surf shops and board manufacturing in Brevard County.  Under the leadership of Dick Catri they were among the first to compete all along the East Coast.  Sam went on to open the Sunshine House Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach with Claude Codgen.  The movie also includes additional vintage films from Melbourne Beach residents Jeff Wallace and Bob Nutting.  Local surfer Art Hottendorf also shares his mid 70's classic 8mm films skateboarding Wallos in Hawaii.   

 

Florida surfers interviewed for this movie include Dick Catri, Claude Codgen, Sam Gornto, Joe Twombly, Mimi Munro, Jeff Wallace, Steve Moldenhauer, John Oed, Carl Hatch, Yancy Spencer III, Bill Yerkes, Art Hottendorf, George Miller, Linda Baron Grover and April Grover.
