We’ve got our first area of interest in the Atlantic—Invest 90L. It’s currently located about 600 miles east of Bermuda (roughly 1,500 miles off the Florida coast) with sustained winds near 35 mph. If it manages to strengthen to tropical storm status it will be out first named storm of the year in the Atlantic and be called Andrea. Given its distance, I'm not expecting much surf from this system.
At the moment, it’s just north of the edge of the 80-degree water line but is tracking northeast. By Wednesday, it’ll likely move into cooler waters (around 70 degrees) it will also encounter a low-pressure front and that combination should cause the system to collapse midweek.
So while it does have a very generous 60% chance (down from 70%) of forming into a named storm according to the National Hurricane Center it probably won't last.
Here is out 2025 list of Hurricane names:
Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dexter, Erin, Fernand, Gabrielle, Humberto, Imelda, Jerry, Karen, Lorenzo, Melissa, Nestor, Olga, Pablo, Rebekah, Sebastien, Tanya, Van, and Wendy
