Surfing Cold Water

A New Englander’s Off-Season Obsession

Dr. Glenn Gordinier lives and surfs in Vero Beach for a couple of months of the year.  He has written about his Florida surfing adventures.  He also lives and surfs in New England for the other ten months.  He has written about his surfing adventures there too, as well as in Northern California, Oregon, Portugal and  elsewhere.  His stories are all in the very readable, Surfing Cold Water: A New Englander’s Off-Season Obsession, published by Flathammock Press.

Cocoa Beach Surfer and Editor of Eastern Surf Magazine, Nick McGreggor ,writes “Gordinier’s prose is both personal and universal, analytic and reflective, touching and scientific .”   Award winning author and California surfer, Ken McAlpine, writes, “When it comes to surfing – passion, obsession, psychopathic pursuit – it’s hard to get it right.  With a poet’s and humorist’s touch (Gordinier’s) story will resonate with anyone fortunate enough to fall under surfing’s spell . . . “.  While such high praise pleases Gordinier, what he appreciates most is when a stranger paddles over on the line-up and says, “Hey, are you the guy that wrote the book?  I just got to that part about great whites in NorCal . . . excellent.”  In fact, the book is written with surfers in mind.  Surfing Cold Water is a series of true tales that each are two to three pages in length. So, a surfer can sit for five or ten minutes, take in a self-contained story or two, and then return to the book a day or a week later.  A surfer since his teenage years, this veteran “talks story” with fellow surfers in mind.

Surfing Cold Water can be found on Amazon.com, and Gordinier will talking story and doing a book signing  this  Thursday the March 14th at 6:00 , at Vero Beach Book Center...
