Florida Surf Report/Forecast and Tropical Outlook for September 9th 2024

Florida Surf Report/Forecast and Tropical Outlook for September 9th 2024

Atlantic Surf Report and Forecast

Monday:  Knee to thigh to start the day with gentle winds.  Onshore winds pick up for north Florida and start to work their way down as far as the Cape adding a little extra size as the day goes on.  South of the Cape is staying Knee to thigh with gentle onshore winds for the afternoon.

Tuesday:  Thigh to lucky waist high sets from the NE with brisk onshore winds for North Florida.  Central FL will be a notch smaller but should be ridable.  The shadow of the Cape will be in play for the first half of the day blocking out parts of the Space Coast.

Looking ahead:  Northern Florida will be in a better position for this swell with a potential for  waist-high waves, while central Florida could get thigh to waist-high waves from Wednesday to Friday. Onshore winds might affect the quality a bit, but the better spots, especially north of the Cape, should still offer decent conditions. A wind shift on Friday should bring cleaner conditions for the first half of the day.

Tuesday:  Staying small for Tuesday.   We may see a little swell start to show up in PBC later in the day.

Looking ahead:  We could see a little of this next NE swell in the PBC area but it looks like the areas further south will be in the Islands shadow.

Gulfsters:  Flat

Panhandle:  Small to flat

Tuesday:

Panhandle: East winds and smaller scale wind swell kicking up.

Looking ahead:

Gulfsters:   Keep an eye out for a possible small but fun swell from the hurricane in the Western Gulf.  Expect a very late Wednesday to Thursday arrival, then tapering off on Friday.  It’s not going to be big by any means but some small longish period waves could be on tap.

Panhandle:  Continued east winds and wind swell from the Category 1 storm in the Western Gulf will shift to the southeast and south by Thursday. Keep an eye on Friday for some leftover waves with improved southwest wind conditions.

Tropics and Hurricane Forecast
I’m keeping an eye on a few disturbances out there.  The first is in the far Western gulf and it looks like this will be tropical storm Francine soon and strengthen to a category 1 by mid week before making landfall in Louisiana going by the current track.

We have two disturbances in the East Atlantic that look like they may build into something but both are on track to stay far out in the Atlantic.
