Eye on the Tropics 8/20

173426_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind.pngWe are tracking 3 disturbances right now in the Tropics.  Tropical Depression Fourteen, currently West of Honduras is on track to head through the Gulf as a strong tropical storm this weekend.   It may send a small bump our way but it doesn’t look like it will not have enough energy for anything good.

173601_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind.pngNext up we have Tropical Depression Thirteen which is currently located in the Atlantic and is set to cross the Leeward Islands tomorrow (Friday 8/21).  The current track for this storm has it cutting across Southern Florida and moving into the Gulf on Monday.  Long range models are showing the storm at as a category 1 when it makes landfall in Florida bringing strong winds, storm surge and heavy rainfall to parts of Florida.  Depending on how large the wind field is we will likely see storm surf conditions up the entire East Coast of Florida that will be cleaning up as you go further north.  Depending on how well the storm holds together, the Gulf coast could see some action if the storm continues West and doesn't take to northerly of a track after passing over Florida.

There is another wave that is just now clearing Africa that we will be keeping an eye on but it is still way too early to make any calls on that one.
