Slightly Stoopid in Concert at The Cocoa Beach Pier

Fri 19th Aug 2011 Cocoa Beach Florida

Childhood friendships sometimes have such deep connection and impact that they can mold and shape your life both creatively and musically. For Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald from Ocean Beach, California, their friendship resulted in a band in 1995 that has since then travelled the world spreading their original music and acquiring millions of fans. The dual front men of the very successful punk-reggae band Slightly Stoopid have made such a connection with music and each other that they caught the eye of Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell just one year after forming.

They were immediately signed to his Skunk Records label while still in high school and released their title album in 1996, a few months after Bradley’s untimely death. Slightly Stoopid’s influences range from Sublime and Rancid to Beenie Man and Gang Starr. Since 1995 they have added Ryan “RyMo” Moran on drums, Oguer “OG” Ocon on congas, percussion, harp and vocals, C-Money on trumpet and keyboard and Dela on saxophone and created eight albums including 2008’s Slightly Not Stupid Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid which contains old and new tracks.

In 2001 Slightly Stoopid created their own label Stoopid Records and over the years have played with dozens of personally musically influencing bands including Sublime, The Roots, Snoop Dog and Dave Matthews Band. They have played big name US festivals (Lollapalooza, Coachella and Austin City Limits) and sold out shows internationally. Slightly Stoopid’s infectious ability to create a constant melodic groove among thousands of concertgoers exemplifies their talent in this jam-based niche they helped create in the late 1990’s. They praise their fans as the main reason for their success. “Without [the fans], we’d just be playing at the bar,” Kyle has stated. “They make it worth our while. When we go out and people are having that good of a time, the energy goes back and forth. Just a good time, we rely on each other’s energy.”

On Saturday, August 19th you can experience a line up of independent and groundbreaking musicians at the Cocoa Beach Pier as Slightly Stoopid continue with their national Seedless Summer Tour 2011.
