	Presenter: John Hearin Cocoa Beach Chapter of Surfrider Foundation Ph.D. Candidate Coastal Engineering Florida Institute of Technology Description: The beaches of Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach have been nourished with sand on 10 occasions between 1972 and 2011 using a variety of methods. Our beaches are currently the subject of a federally funded shore protection project which has been authorized for 50 years at an estimated cost of $250 million. In this talk John will discuss the causes of beach erosion, the justification for beach nourishment, the methods of beach nourishment, and the impacts of beach nourishment on our beaches.
