THE HIP ABDUCTION SET OUT ON FALL TOUR

THE HIP ABDUCTION SET OUT ON FALL TOUR

"If you’re wondering which group of Florida’s upcoming Indie artists could be the first to break nationally, look no further than The Hip Abduction. They are already doing it."

–Tampa Bay Times

Show Info: Friday, November 21 @ Cafe DaVinci - DeLand, FL

Florida Gulf Coast natives and American Afropop pioneers, The Hip Abduction are hitting the road for several shows this November. Dates will include 12 shows along the East Coast, including five cities The Hip Abduction will be playing for the first time. For those who are new to their live show, they can expect musicianship that often draws comparisons to Dave Matthews Band. The tour will also include some brand new material by the band that will be featured on their new LP now in the works (details coming soon).

"Their music expertly transcends several genres without lulling into any singular sound, keeping the listener captivated all throughout.”

–Creative Loafing

With a sound that is as distinct as it is accessible, The Hip Abduction brings to life traditional American Afropop, melding it into their own eccentric, modern and refreshing approach. The Hip Abduction make use of African instruments such as the Kora and the Ngoni, yet are able to effortlessly fuse these with the sounds of indie rock, reggae, bluegrass and funk to deliver a sound that defies classification.

In December of 2013, they released their breakout self-titled LP, which pays homage to the classic sounds of Paul Simon’s Graceland, while harnessing a likeness to Vampire Weekend. The album, which was produced by Michael Goldwasser, (Matisyahu, Rebelution, Easy Star All Stars, The Green) reached #5 on the Billboard Reggae Chart and #2 on the iTunes Reggae Chart as an independent release. It won Album of the Year on Homegrown Music Network (homegrownmusic.net), and also was nominated for Album of the Year by The Pier (www.thepier.org).

Touring with Passafire will cap off the band’s most successful year to date, considering the chart position of their self-titled album. The Hip Abduction secured slots on some impressive festivals and bills such as: Wanee Music Festival, Cali Roots: The Carolina Sessions, and Orange Blossom Jamboree as well as sharing the stage with Ziggy Marley, Umphrey’s McGee, Thievery Corporation, Easy Star All Stars, and many more.
