Rusty's Seafood & Oyster Bar Port Canaveral Seafood Review

Kapn Bone Seafood Review

If your going to put lead in your pencil you’d better have someone to write to! Yea it’s your good old Kapn. Bone here with this weeks Food Review. After an invigorating round of golf, Buddha insisted on stopping by Rusty’s at the Port and we were glad he did.

With Jim our resident PGA pro in tow we were introduced to Rhett Fisher (a fourth generation restaurateur) and our host. Rhett gave us a grand tour and explained the history of the first Rusty’s, it all started way back in 1948 the Fisher family was on to something, They owned a fleet of boats back when the Port was just a small fishing village and needed an outlet to sell their fresh fish. So they opened the first Rusty’s on Halloween and for sixty years they have served Astronauts and Presidents and a grateful Cocoa Beach community.

After a informative history lesson Rhett was anxious to get us to the bar to sample some of the appetizers on the menu. I made a bet with Rhett that I would like to do a food challenge, your good old Kapn. Bone would jump into the ring and eat twenty dozen Oysters in under an hour! Rhett I’m ready when you are.

Starting us off with two dozen, Marie our server was an Oyster shucking machine! She cut theses babies so fast and clean that before you could say… well you get the idea. I don’t know if the unseasonably cold winter that we have experienced had anything to do with it but these were the finest Oysters that I have every seen. They were perfect juicy and sweet.

To add to Marie’s praises there was not one extra piece of shell just perfect. We made short work of the first two dozen and ordered some Steamed Shrimp. The Shrimp were also delicious, Bay seasoned and easy to peel. I ordered the Seafood Gumbo on this cool night and it really hit the spot. Another dozen Oysters and a half of pound of Shrimp later we were feeling pretty content.

It’s time to get the family in the car and come up Rusty’s at the Port and sample some of the best seafood in town. You can sit outside and watch the Cruise ship roll by or sit at the bar with Marie and Ashley shucking the best Oysters you have ever seen. Our thanks to Rhett, Marie and Ashley for a terrific time.

Come see why Rusty’s has been in business for sixty years and don’t forget to tell them Kapn. Bone sent you!
