What is Podcasting?

“Podcasting” is an easy way to get Surf Guru produced audio automatically downloaded to your computer or portable audio device. It's convenient if you have a portable MP3 player or if you don't want to come to the site to hear what Buddha has to say. This means you can listen to it whenever you want.

When you have your podcasting application set up, you will always have access to the most recent audio reports and shows, ready for listening or watching!

What is RSS?

A feed (also called XML or RSS) is simply a link to a web page that will tell programs what files are available for downloading and where to download them

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for distributing website content. Using RSS, websites can easily distribute content from their website that is of interest to other like minded people. Other sites using RSS to deliver content to a wider audience include ESPN and CNN.

To view the RSS feed you will need a "rss reader". Popular readers include AmphetaDesk, NetNewsWire, and Radio Userland. Additionaly, there are services that will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page. For example, you can add RSS feeds to your My Yahoo! Page.

What do I need to make this work?

First decide what application you want to use, and then follow our step-by-step instructions. Here are some of the more popular free applications that will work:

Miro Download Juice, the cross-platform podcast receiver iTunes Logo
Miro
Subscribe to Surf Guru audio feeds easily, with automatic downloading and file management. Also include channels and content guide. This is the best choice if you plan to watch or listen to Surf Guru on your computer.
Juice
Free podcasting software for Windows, Mac and Linux. This is a good choice if you own a non-Apple portable music or video player.
Apple iTunes
Subscribe to Surf Guru audio feeds. If you already own an iPod or Apple TV, you probably already have this software. Just subscribe to DN! through the iTunes store, or use the iTunes buttons on this page.

I don’t want to use any of the above. What else is there?

There are a lot to choose from! Some people like using a single desktop application to keep up with blogs, podcasts, news, etc. Check out FeedDemon for Windows, and NetNewsWire for Mac.

You can also use web-based news reader services (like Google Reader or NewsGator which will let you subscribe and listen to podcast feeds.

Certain “Internet Radio” appliances, portable media players and even mobile phones can subscribe to podcast feeds. For all these solutions, you will need to use the XML feed links on this page.
