 It’s August and there is no activity in the tropics, so you can imagine what the conditions were like for the 6th Annual AAU National Surf Championships held at Coconuts on the Beach in Cocoa Beach, Florida on Saturday and Sunday. Add the 90 degree heat into the mix and you’ve got one steamy event! It was a challenge to surf and a challenge to judge, but after two days in grueling heat, this event named its National Champs. 

 The event was an AAU sanctioned National Surf Championship promoted by Space Coast Sports Promotion and Slater Brothers Surf Company. Over 40 competitors vied for a  coveted spot in the Slater Brothers Invitational which was awarded to the top four finishers in both the Open Short Board and Open Long Board divisions.  Those spots went to  Chris Duff, Corey Howell, Sam Duggan and Tyde Behrend in the Short Board division and to Corey Williams,  Adam Vaughan, Sam Duggan and Michael Johnson in the long board division. The Slater Brothers Invitational will be held on October 27-30, proceeds for which go to the World Skin Cancer Foundation.
