King Yellowman Sunday, July 8th at Beachside Tavern in New Smyrna Beach!

 Yellowman was born Winston Foster in Kingston, Jamaica in 1956.  The name Yellowman was gained from his albino complexion which led him to be a victim of neglect by his parents and forced to live in multiple orphanages in Jamaica.  Gravitating towards music at a young age he started a career in DJing and Toasting.  In the early 1980’s he gained immediate notoriety by winning a Tastee Talent Competition and since then has released 26 albums to date.  Unfortunately, in 1986 he learned that he had developed jaw cancer which resulted in six surgeries; however, true to his work ethic and belief in music he still released two albums that same year.  King Yellowman is regarded as the father of dancehall reggae and the pioneer of American rap.  Yellowman’s AA-AB riddims have been duplicated by other groundbreaking hip-hop artists such as KRS-One, Notorious BIG, Mos Def, Tupac and Talib Kweli.  NWA and RUN-DMC have also both used his vocals on their tracks.


Yellowman has been written in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most albums released in one year (over 50 since 1982,) was the first dancehall artist to be nominated for a Grammy, the first dancehall artist to work in rap, the first dancehall artist to be signed to a major label (CBS Records) and was given the key to the City of Ft.
