Oyster Mat Making - Thursday, 9 July & Wednesday, 29 July 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Help the Nature Conservancy with their community project to restore oyster reefs in the Mosquito Lagoon of North Brevard County. Volunteering is fun, rewarding and best of all free! “Sharkwater” Environmental Thriller - Saturday, 11 July 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. The world’s shark population has decreased by an astonishing 90%! Surviving pirate boat rammings, gunboat chases, and mafia espionage biologist and filmmaker Rod Stewart risks his life to stop the slaughter of sharks and save our oceans. Rated PG as there is some graphic footage. There is no cost to attend. Beach Clean-Up - Saturday, 18 July 9 to 11 a.m. Help keep our beaches and ocean clean for the nesting sea turtles and sharks at sea. Volunteering is fun, rewarding and best of all free! Turkey Creek Paddle - Saturday, 18 July 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Experience another Environmentally Endangered Lands Program treasure. Explore hydric hammocks, mesic hammocks, and sand pine scrub by way of this beautiful, blackwater creek. Wildlife are commonly seen on the water and land. Meet at Goode Park, 1300 Bianca Drive NE, Palm Bay. Please wear water shoes, sunscreen and bring your water bottle, a snack and insect repellant. Binoculars and pocket change for a stop at Margaret Hames Nature Center and Gift Shop are optional. Tandem kayaks available for a party of 2 or singles for individuals. Children under 12 must paddle tandem with an adult. Cost of kayak rental is $38 per person. Enrollment is limited to 20 people/10 kayaks. If the weather does not permit, after meeting to launch, rain date will be Sunday, 19 July. “Shape a Shark” Eco-Art for Everyone - Sunday, 26 July 1 p.m. Cut, paste and paint stunning shark species that will be sure to capture your love for these stellar sea creatures! There is no cost to participate. “Masters of the Sea...Myths and Truths!” Presentation - Sunday, 26 July 2 p.m. Master Scuba Instructor Joe Bartoszek takes you into the mysterious world of sharks with brilliant underwater images that illuminate the importance of their conservation! There is no cost to attend. Tour de Turtles 2009 Silent Auction & Social- Thursday, 30 July 6 p.m. Bid on a variety of wonderful goodies while mingling with friends. All proceeds to benefit the Caribbean Conservation Corporation for sea turtle education and conservation at the Barrier Island Center. Tour de Turtles 2009 Sea Turtle Release - Friday, 31 July 9 a.m. Join the Caribbean Conservation Corporation for the release of a satellite equipped loggerhead sea turtle from the Barrier Island Center. Then learn how you can help ensure the survival of sea turtles and follow the loggerhead's migration online at www.tourdeturtles.org as she races other sea turtles released throughout the Caribbean on a 1,628 mile marathon.
