  • North Shore is firing, where are all the east coasters?

The North Shore is firing...Pipeline is excellant...where are all the east coasters?  I know the North Carolina boys are here, but they don't call me to shoot.  Where are the Jones'?  They both won big bucks at contests.  Volcom owns the lineup at Pipe!  Air fare is cheap, tourism is down, lineups are ...

  • Re: wanting some info on this surfboard

Gerry Lopez was the man at Pipe.  He won the Pipeline Master in 1972 and 1973.  He was considered the best tube rider of his time.  He was in an exhibition heat at this years (2008) Pipeline Masters Contest.  He shaped for Lightning Bolt and he shaped the board that was the trophy that Kelly Slater won this year.  ...

  • Nathan Fletcher breaks his femur at Pipeline.

At about 9:30 this morning, Nathan Fletcher was practicing for the Backdoor Shootout.  Pipe is most dangerous when there is a long beach and a rising swell.  Nathan took off on a medium sized wave (2' Hawaiian or head high), went up and hit the lip to do a layback snap.  You could hear the snap of his femur from the ...

  • Re: Need tips

Stop in Indiatlantic at one of the surf shops by US 192 and A1A.  Camp at Long Point.  Spanish House is right up the road, along with any number of sandbars from Playalinda south.

  • Re: Question about the Womens Triple Crown

It was decided that it was by chance.  There were many interference calls that day.  The rules committee decided to investigate this particular instance, probably because it involved 7 time world champion Layne Beachley and because Coco and Carissa were high fiving on the way in.  You can read the official version at:  ...

  • Re: Question #2

Here is the actual history, not what Jeff Clark or Riding Giants says is true. In early March of 1961, three surfers, Alex Matienzo, Jim Thompson, and *** Knottmeyer, decided to try the distant waves off Pillar Point. With them was a white-haired German Shepherd named Maverick, owned by a roommate of Matienzo. Maverick was used ...

  • Re: Question #2

I don't know who Fuel gave the nod to, but I remember it being ridden in the 60's. I went there in 1972 when it was better known as Pillar Point.  It was huge!  No, I didn't ride it.  I never liked cold water and that water was freezing!
