Kelly Slater, C.J. Hobgood and Damien Hobgood will be surfing in the second round after rough first-round performances at the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro on Saturday.

Slater was up first and finished second in his heat, hitting just one good wave — a 6.83. Tim Reyes won the heat. C.J. Hobgood also placed second in his heat, scoring one solid wave as well — a 7.33. Dayyan Neve won that heat.

Damien Hobgood finished third in his heat, scoring 5.17 and 4.20.
