Cape Canaveral (09/01 Fish Tales Tours) Recent rains have cooled water temps into the mid 80's and speckled trout are feeding more aggressively once again. Grass flats 2-3ft in depth marked by sandy potholes is were you'll find them. In the early morning, calm days, top water baits like the super spook jr. are very effective. After the sun hits the water switch over to live shrimp or a glow in the dark more

Cape Canaveral (08/14 Fish Tales Tours) Mangrove snapper are biting on both the north and south side of the lock. Near the rocks on either side is optimum and bait of choice is live shrimp on a #1 hook with a small split shot. Peeled shrimp will also work though you have to get it by the pins and puffers. The trout are schooling in the early mornings near the flats drop offs. Small imitation minnow lures more

Cape Canaveral (08/07 Captain Chris) Hello Hello The last few days were pretty darn good for everything. The big kings have been on the beach in 35 feet of water. We had a few days in a row of 20-30 fish! in the 20-30lb class!! AWESOME. We also have been hitting the local wrecks and chumming up all sorts of stuff from Cobia, Amberjack, Magroves, Cudas, Bonitas, even small Mahi. Get out there use more

August is important for three reasons Fish and Lobsters

posted 08/07/10
Hello people of the sea! Isn’t summer freaking great? The water is clear, there are waves every so often, and  when there are no waves, the fishing is unreal!  August is important for one reason: my birthday on the 1st. Okay, there are more important things going on. For starters lobster season starts this month—on the 6th. A week after—yep, you guessed it, my more

Damn that was a cold winter!! It was so cold I could barely move my fingers to type up any decent fishing reports! But the ice has finally melted across Florida and it’s time to do some fishing, boys and girls. And since we’re on the topic of boys and girls, how ‘bout I talk about some ways you boys and girls, men and women, muchachos and muchachas can all fish together?! more

Offshore Shrinkage

Offshore Shrinkage

If I could describe this winter in a single word it would have to be “shrinkage.” Our supply of fish in East central Florida sure has shrunk down and populations are suffering due to the cold. What? You thought I meant what? Dude, get your mind out of the gutter! I was just trying to say that fishing has been tough lately because a lot of fish have died off and the ones left are basic more

Excuse me waiter, I’ll have the mechanically separated, previously frozen, hormone-infused chicken breast, please. That’s what we’ll be ordering at our favorite restaurants one day if our fishery management groups stay on the path they’re currently on. Beginning in January, offshore anglers will no longer be able to harvest red snapper or grouper from the more

Surfing, fishing. Surfing, fishing. That’s how it’s been going for Central Florida’s people of the sea lately. One weekend we’ve got beautiful glassy the surf, the next week its flat and great conditions for flats fishing or going offshore. Hey, I’m not complaining though--nothing wrong with a little instability every once in awhile. Since we’re talking more
